Good pic, love you mom! [Mom note: I'm always asking him for a good picture with no silly faces] |
Boa tarde todos! Como vocês estão? Espero que vocês estejam bem e que todo mundo está disfrutando sendo em DEZEMBRO!!!! FINALMENTE!! [Good afternoon everyone! How are you? I hope you are well and that everyone is enjoying being in DECEMBER!!!! FINALLY!!]
Hows it going guys! Its still really hard to believe that it is December already cause I havent seen any snow yet in Brazil. For some really its just really hot here. Its like Brazil isnt located in the same place as Chicago or Utah🤣 To all my friends who are in the states.... what is snow like again? I kinda forgot already😅
But in other words, heres the update from a Fisher of Men (that has a little gripe, or cold):
Monday - Pretty much a normal monday. I didnt have to travel anywhere today. It was pretty funny to do a practice with the Sisters and they asked me to be an investigator that is about 14 years old and has "fear". Thats all they told me so I used what years I have of musical theater and kinda threw the sisters for a loop with some of my questions but they did amazing and afterwards thanked me for my questions as an investigator (thank you theater!)
"Cowboys" |
Tuesday - Really cool moment that I thought would never happen on my mission. We were having lunch with one of our friends, Tayrone (Who runs an english school), at this restaurant. We were talking about singing english christmas carols on the 15th and 16th of December when all of the sudden the song "Last Night" by Morgan Wallen came on! Literally I froze and thought about my BYU roommates (I miss you boys! Thanks for showing me this song!) It was pretty cool! We also passed by a recent converts house that has nephews who are about 4 years old and were watching a TV show. It was a really weird show and I think the kids in the show had a pet ferit. Idk exactly but it was funny. I then ended the day finding another giant moth as big as my face on my sweatshirt and ended up getting it out of the house use a "law of chastity" pamplet (2nd time now!)
MOTH!!! |
Wednesday - while shopping today i learned that self checkout is not common in Brazil as it is in the states. I quickly worked through my stuff and when I was done, Elder Cardoso was still figuring out how to start the machine! I ended up helping him and realized how different other countries are with technology. We then went back to our house and Elder Cardoso found a dead bird on his bed! He tried giving it CPR but sadly it was too late. Ngl, I was pretty sad for a while about that. Luckly though, CRIS ARRIVED TO VISIT PEOPLE WITH US!! WOOHOO! I learned 2 things that day. 1. Brazilians can talk a lot and give you a lot of food and 2. CRIS HAS A YOUTUBE CHANNEL. Everyone... GO SUBSCRIBE!! While working with Cris we also had a double rainbow and may have stopped in the middle of a intersection to take a picture. Late that night, Cris drove us to Ponta Grossa for a zone conference the next day and it reminded me of driving with my sister Brenna after winter term. I also got a chance to speak with the youth from my home ward about missionary work and holy cow, my english is terrible! I hope they understood me🤣
Thursday - Woke up this morning to what I thought was a chicken alarm but was really actual chickens. They woke me up at 3, 5, and then at 6:30 so, thanks chickens!🤣 We then had zone conference and ngl, every zone conference it feels like I am getting slapped in the face of how bad of a missionary I am, but at the same time, I LOVE IT because it shows I have stuff to work on and there are always things i can do better! Something we learned about is the importance of acompanying people by sharing them uplifting messages each day and seeing how they are doing using the power of technology. With technology the work is hastening quickly and so its important we also used technology with this purpose to help others and perform the work. Also, i think President Bikman knows and can do everything cause he played like 2 christmas songs flawlessly! Another miracle I saw today is when we were walking pass this neighbor that we know pretty well and Layse, one of the girls there, ran up to me and said "I want to be baptized". It took me 5 seconds to process what she said until i said, "WHAT?!". We ended up marking her to be baptized this next week!
Friday - First member lunch today and it was HUGE! This lady had a churrasco for us and when i thought it was done, she had ice cream! After we ate that, she had a WATERMELON! Lets just say I was feeling kinda sick to my stomach after. Later that day we were teaching this person we just met and he has a big dog. During the lesson the dog jumped on me and got slobber over me and The Book of Mormon (dont worried, i repented for that one) it was gross!
First lunch with member! |
Saturday - Woke up with a text from a friend we met named Alek and he said he was reading the Book of Mormon! I was shocked! We talked a little about what he was reading and found a day we could pass by again to talk about it. Talk about elite! One again, i was giving part of a lesson today and all of a sudden a bird pooped on me and a Book of Mormon (im sorry Book of Mormon!) That last thing i remember from this day is seeing a Green Elmo on a truck. It was weird
Flower boys |
Sunday - woke up at 6 to a member calling me 5 times in a row. I tried to answer but my Phone wasnt working so i texted her and she kept calling. (Sorry to wake ya Elder Da Silva) Today was really special though because we had the baptism of Ana and it was Elder Da Silvas first baptism on the mission! Its always awesome to watch a baptism because not only do you feel like your fulfilling your mission purpose, but you helping a child of God come back to Christ.
Baptism... yes this is the best photo of them all and I wasnt ready |
Even with all the downs and animals getting me all gross, this week was full of miracles! I also hit 6 months on the mission this last week and I want to thank everyone that sent me a congrats for hitting 6 months. It still feels like I have only a month on the mission but truly the mission has been an experience I will never get back. To all my friends serving, keep going! Remember the promise of Alma 17:2-3, we are gonna be celebrating when we all get back!
